Visiting Artist Series on the Colchicum Waterlily

New! The Autumn Crocus, or Colchicum ‘waterlily’, is known for its remarkable display in the autumn season. With beautiful lilac-pink color that displays 20 delicate petals, the flowers create a truly exceptional sight in early fall.  John Pastoriza-Piñol, an award-winning botanical artist with a doctorate in botany from the University of Vigo, Spain, travels from Australia to teach techniques for achieving the intricacies of fine detail in your artwork. Explore clever compositions, painting techniques, and color theory as you paint a full plant portrait of a Colchicum ‘waterlily’.  Expand your knowledge on applying paint from wet-on-wet to dry brush technique. Properly protecting critical edges in your drawing before laying down your watercolor washes is an invaluable process for contemporary botanical artists. Your paintings will be brought to a new level of realism and detail. Students should have intermediate to advanced skills in drawing and watercolor. A supply list will be sent.
