Program 6: Northern Suburban Special Recreation Association

Serve it Up Academy empowered Northern Suburban Special Recreation Association participants to embark on a rich culinary journey combining nutrition, storytelling, kitchen skills, and exploring the flavors, scents, and textures of fall harvest.  

The program was designed with the overall goal of encouraging participants to choose healthier lifestyles and independence through hands-on experiences like meal planning, grocery shopping, and cooking. Participants learned to identify nutritious ingredients, make balanced food choices, navigate the grocery store, and prepare delicious and healthy meals. The program culminated with a family style meal serving the friends and family of the participants as their guests at the dinner table.
