Zowie! Yellow Flame Zinnia

Zowie! Yellow Flame zinnia (Zinnia elegans 'Zowie! Yellow Flame'), a warm-season annual, grows 3 feet tall and slightly narrower, and blooms from July through a killing frost. Each 3- to 4-inch, semi-double flower has a cone-shaped center tipped in yellow and two-toned petals. Petals open magenta-pink with yellow tips and mature to orange-red with yellow tips. Heat- and drought-tolerant Zowie! Yellow Flame is a good selection for container gardens. Blooming now in the Graham Bulb Garden, as shown here, hard-working bumblebees (Bombus sp.) are busily collecting nectar so they have what it takes to mate with next year's queen bees.
