Seiryu Toad Lily

Tall swaying green leaved stems produce sprays of exotically shaped white flowers variously speckled with burgundy spots and tinted in lavender surround the lavender stamen and styles. Toad lilies thrive in shaded locations in soils that are continuously moist throughout the year. They are prone to nibbling by rabbits and deer but are well worth the trouble to protect when their flowers reassure gardeners that October has arrived. Late season flowers are particularly important to pollinators preparing for winter regardless of whether they migrate like Monarch butterflies and some hummingbirds or store away honey for next spring's young like honeybees.
