Common Tansy

The common tansy is a Eurasian native that was cultivated in ancient times for medicinal purposes. Be aware that the plant contains a chemical, thujone, that has been known to cause convulsions. It can grow to a height of 2’ with a similar spread. The fern-like foliage is aromatic and it blooms in late summer with yellow daisy-like flowers. Deadhead immediately after blooming to control self-seeding and to keep the plant looking tidier. It is not fussy about soil types or conditions; drier conditions will help manage spreading. It prefers full sun or partial shade.
