Yellow Trumpets

Pale yellow flowers appear before the yellowish-green pitchers with delicate red pinstriping become actively trapping insects in early spring in coastal marshes along the Gulf Coast.  The tall pitchers color up well in fall becoming bright yellow beacons. Pitcher plants must carefully time their flowers to avoid trapping insects that they need to pollinate the flowers. After flowering the pitchers have two heavy feeding periods in spring and fall.
