Panicle Hydrangea

‘Le Vasterival’ is commonly sold under the trade mark name Great Star™. This is a compact, rounded shrub that stands 6 to 7 ft. tall with a spread of 7 to 8 ft. It has large, conical flowerheads that contain unusually large, showy but sterile florets with wavy, elongated petals 4 inches in length. Fertile but not showy florets are mixed in the flower clusters. The flowers emerge white in July, and turn pink as they mature. The blooms will continue into September. The color of the flowers is not affected by the pH of the soil. ‘Le Vasterival’ does well in full sun to light shade and is moderately drought - tolerant . It blooms on new wood so the flowers are not susceptible to late spring frosts. This is a hybrid of Hydrangea paniculata which is native to Japan, China and Korea where it grows at altitudes up to 4,000 ft.
