Hippeastrum blossfeldiae

Blossfeld Amaryllis

This species is native to São Paulo State in Brazil. The flowers resemble daylilies, with 4 to 5 crayon orange flowers per stem with a star-shaped yellow-green. The long orange filaments are tipped with white anthers. Patience is required to grow this species, as bulbs may take a long time to sprout. Once they do, water and fertilize lightly. After flowering stems die back, they will go into a semi-dormant state during summer. The leaves will not die back completely. Resume watering in the fall.
