Sunstream Ginkgo

'Sun Stream' is a small Ginkgo with green and yellow variegated leaves. The yellow stripes on the leaves are irregular and fade to a cream as the leaf matures. It is reported that this variegated form shows less tendency toward reversion to an all green leaf, which has been a problem with past variegated forms. Sun Stream Ginkgo was first introduced by Oregon Nurseryman Gary Handy, it is a semi-dwarf, becoming a broad oval shrub like tree about 8 feet tall in ten years, and has the typical outstanding golden yellow fall color of all Ginkgoes. Its smaller size would work well in containers or smaller garden spaces. Ginkgo is one of the most pollution-tolerant trees and works well in the city. Ginkgo is sometimes called the maidenhair tree due to its beautiful fan shaped leaves that resemble a maidenhair fern frond. The Ginkgo is an ancient deciduous conifer and evidence has been found which shows this tree coexisted with the dinosaurs.
