Hubert A. Fischer was a distinguished horticulturist and hybridizer, renowned for his work with irises and daylilies. Based in Hinsdale, Illinois, Fischer left a lasting legacy in the horticultural world through his innovations, leadership, and dedication to his craft. Fischer and his wife Marie created celebrated show gardens, first in Lombard and later on a 14-acre estate in Hinsdale, featuring tulips, daffodils, poppies, peonies, irises, hemerocallis, hostas, and more.

- Charter Member of the American Iris Society (AIS) beginning in 1920; President of AIS from 1963 to 1966
- Founder of the Chicagoland Daylily Society
- Past President of the American Hemerocallis Society
