Arthur L. Janura was a long-serving and influential figure in public land management and horticulture through his leadership of the Forest Preserves of Cook County in Illinois.

  • The Arthur L. Janura Forest Preserve in Hoffman Estates spans more than 4,366 acres and includes:
    • Restored prairies, oak woodlands, and wetlands
    • Poplar Creek Trail System, Bode Lake, and Barrington Road Pond
    • Facilities for hiking, biking, fishing, cross-country skiing, and nature education
  • Janura’s work helped shape the landscape and ecological identity of suburban Chicago, making nature accessible to millions of residents.
