Did you know more than six million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, and are supported by more than 11 million unpaid caregivers?  As these numbers grow, creating inclusive, supportive spaces is essential.

Dementia Friendly America was launched to help communities create these spaces. In July 2019, Glencoe became  recognized as a Dementia Friendly Community. Today, Family Service of Glencoe and the Chicago Botanic Garden partner to offer meaningful, nature-based experiences for individuals living with dementia and their care partners.

On September 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Chicago Botanic Garden and Family Service Glencoe offer Dementia Friendly Day—a day created to support individuals living with dementia and their care partners.

Offered in observance of World Alzheimer’s Month, staff from Family Service Glencoe, Glencoe Public Safety, and Chicago Botanic Garden will be on hand to answer questions and share resources. Enjoy a complimentary cup of coffee while visiting the Dementia Friendly Day tables in the Garden’s Krehbiel Gallery in the Regenstein Center.

Dementia Friendly Day takes place on one of the Garden’s Free Admission Days for Illinois residents.  Preregistration for nonmembers is required and will extend until the Garden is at capacity; parking fees apply. Visitors can preregister up to two months in advance for free admission days.
