Lemon Gem Signet Marigold

Hundreds of small, single yellow-marigold blossoms cover this annual from summer up to the first hard frost of fall. The finely dissected, lacy foliage provides a fine texture for the landscape. Deadhead (remove old flowers) to encourage additional blooms. Flowers can be used in cooking, and the foliage has a pleasant citrus fragrance. Plant 'Lemon Gem' in full sun and in average soil, and provide moderate fertilization for best results. This plant attracts nectar-feeding insects during the growing season, and the seeds are readily consumed by song birds in the fall.
