Cane-brake Pitcher Plant

Large bright burgundy red flowers appear above the green, red veined wide 'pitchers' in early spring when the pitchers have reduced insect trapping activity.  Spring and fall are the seasons of maximum trapping and feeding. Very rare, the International Carnivorous Plant Society worked with the US Forest Service to flood the market with cultivated plants to reduce the incidence of poaching of the small native populations.
