Van Sion Double Daffodil

This ancient (over 400 years old) cultivar features doubled flowers, the amount of doubling varying from year to year. Its' origin is shrouded in mystery having appeared on the English gardening scene in the 1600's. Some years it resembles a golden powderpuff only to appear the following year as a hose-in-hose, split cup or some intermediate form between the three flower shapes. To add to the mystery some years if has a touch of green to the petals. Because of this variability it has, over time, been given many different names by gardeners who did not realize the unusually shaped flowers they observed were not stable in the long term. It remains in commercial production after four centuries, testament to it's ability to thrive and survive in a number of garden settings.
