Raspberry Wine Beebalm

Raspberry Wine beebalm grows to about 4 feet tall and 1 to 2 feet wide. As part of a multi-year evaluation of beebalms held at the Chicago Botanic Garden, Raspberry Wine beebalm was found to have 2-inch vivid purple-red blossoms covering 80% to 100% of the plant for about 6 weeks from early to mid summer. It had good mildew resistance, and while some winter injury was observed, it maintained a good form throughout the trial. Overall it was rated one of the top beebalms for Chicagoland conditions, receiving a good to excellent performance evaluation.

Beebalm grows in sunny or partially shady areas. If you gently rub your finger across the leaf, you'll be pleasantly surprised by its fragrance. Bright pompoms of flowers bloom in mid summer, and removing faded flowers will extend flowering. Beebalm is great for attracting bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds to your garden. It's easy to grow and adds a lot of color to your border. Cut back at the end of the summer, and maintain soil moisture during dry periods to minimize powdery mildew.
