Border Bearded Iris

Iris 'Batik' is a border bearded iris that is a little shorter than tall bearded irises. The royal-purple flowers each have their own wildly unique pattern of white streaks, creating a distinctive look on each bloom. The contrasting yellow beards add the perfect accent to these stunning blooms. The stems stand 2 feet tall, each with multiple buds that open in late spring to early summer. It has no fragrance but is attractive to butterflies and makes an excellent cut flower. Batik was awarded Honorable Mention in 1988, Award of Merit in 1990, and the Knowlton Medal in 1992. Iris is the name of the Greek goddess of the rainbow. The classic Fleur de Lys, which has been a symbol of royalty throughout history, is an adaptation of the iris flower.
