Panicle Hydrangea

Hydrangea paniculata ‘Jane’ is sold under the trademark name LITTLE LIME™. This is a small shrub with a compact rounded habit and large conical flowerheads. It stands 3 to 5 ft. high with a spread of 3 to 5 ft. The flowerheads are a mixture of larger showy but sterile flowers and smaller, fertile ones. Strong stems prevent the flowerheads from drooping. The flowers emerge lime green and mature to white in July and last into September, turning pink/burgundy as they mature. ‘Jane’ does well in full sun to light shade. It blooms on new wood so the flowers are not susceptible to late spring frosts. The color of the flowers is not affected by the pH of the soil. This is a hybrid of Hydrangea paniculata which is native to Japan, China and Korea where it grows at altitudes up to 4,000 ft.
