Lace Cap Hydrangea

Hydrangea macrophylla is a deciduous shrub that grows 3-6’ tall and wide. It features dark green leaves and large clusters of flowers which are either lace cap or mophead in structure. ‘Lemon Wave’, a lace cap cultivar which grows 6’ tall, is known for its unusual variegated foliage which features dark green leaves splashed with patches of white, creamy yellow and lemon yellow. The flowers, which appear in July, are light pink in alkaline soils and light blue in acidic soils. Hardy to Zone 6 – will struggle in the Chicago winters and should be planted in a protected site.
