Blackout Alumroot

Blackout Alumroot is a cultivar with glossy dark black-brown colored foliage. This plant creates a compact mounded plant 6 inches high by 14 inches wide. The dark leaves are held flat, lacking any ruffles of the other similar varieties. In early summer 10 inch dark flower scapes appear, the tiny flowers open to creamy white. Although grown primarily for the striking foliage, the flowers add a delicate bonus to early summer gardens. Blackout Alumroot was bred and introduced by Dirk Scheys of Belgium in 2008. This plant will work well in shade or sun, with adequate moisture.
