Lenten Rose

This plant is commonly called a Christmas rose because it flowers very early in the winter from mid-November until January.

Hgc Jacob helleborus bears abundant white 3 inch flowers with pale yellow centers and stamens. The petals slowly fade to a dusty pink throughout late winter and early spring. The dark green foliage forms an evergreen mound about 8 inches high and 18 inches wide. Helleborus are well-suited to understory plantings under deciduous trees where they are receive shelter during the summer.
