Girard Purple Vernal Witch Hazel

‘Girard Purple’ is a medium-sized shrub or small tree with a rounded habit. Oblong leaves are initially medium-green changing to a dark green then to orange and crimson in the fall. The flowers are small, fragrant, twisted and crinkled purplish-red petals emerging from a purplish maroon calyx. As the leaves develop the flowers fade. This shrub needs to be pruned after flowering in the spring to control shape and size.
