The Desmit rhododendron is part of the 'P.J.M.' group of rhododendrons, which are the result of crosses between the rhododendron (R. carolinianum) and R. dauricum var. sempervirens. 'Desmit' is a small (3-6’) dense shrub and blooms with vivid, showy, pink flowers in early April. The leaves are dark green and turn purplish in the fall. Rhododendrons in the 'P.J.M.' group are heavy flowerers because they do not set seed. Like all rhododendrons, it prefers well-drained, fertile, acidic soil in partial shade.
