Enjoy a creative break and the opportunity to carve an heirloom garden sculpture from a block of Indiana limestone under the creative direction of sculptor DJ Garrity. Use simple hand tools to create works inspired by their botanical surroundings in the form of flowers, plants, or sculptures featuring the human face. Garrity, who resides in the West of Ireland, is an award-winning sculptor who previously served as sculptor-in-residence of the Mount Rushmore National Memorial.
Garrity is also the author of a book entitled The Rhythms of Stone; a guide to carving the human face in stone. His four-day workshop blends the basic elements of portraiture and stone carving technique, as participants utilize simple hand tools to finesse unique garden sculpture from blocks of rough Indiana limestone. No experience is required. Additional information concerning the artist is available at www.djgarrity.com.
Students of all ages have enjoyed the light approach that Garrity brings to the art of stone sculpture. If you are interested in bringing your own stone, please mention this when registering and the price of the limestone will be deducted from your class fee. Students need to supply their own carving tools. A supply list will be sent.
