How to Apply for Apprenticeship Certification

Eligibility

Interested applicants must be eligible to enroll in the City Colleges of Chicago. This requires a high school diploma or GED, and that any outstanding debt to City Colleges of Chicago be paid in full. Successful applicants demonstrate a strong interest in changing careers, or supplementing their current work with agricultural education and production of local, nutritious fruits and vegetables. On average 20 applicants are accepted each year. Eligibility includes the applicant’s commitment to farm and study on a set schedule for nine months.

Class Hours

Spring and Summer Term (January to July):
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Wednesdays, 8 a.m. to noon

Fall Term Paid Work Experience (August to October):
**Hours differ based on placement location. Positions usually work 30 to 37.5 hours a week.
**Fridays are unpaid lecture class from 9am to 3 p.m.

Application Process

The 2021 application is open through October 22, 2020.

All applicants must complete the following steps:

  • Complete the Windy City Harvest Apprenticeship Admissions form
  • Attend an information session
  • Attend a work shadow day

All information sessions are held at the Arturo Velasquez Institute, 2800 S. Western Ave. The room will be posted at the security desk at each entrance on the day of the information session.

Information sessions will be held on the following days:

  • Friday, October 4, 2019, 10 a.m. to noon
  • Friday, October 18, 2019, 10 a.m. to noon
  • Friday, November 8, 2019, 1 to 3 p.m.

Work Shadow day locations will be announced at the information sessions, and will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on the following days:

  • Friday, October 11, 2019
  • Friday, October 25, 2019
  • Friday, November 15, 2019

Windy City Harvest will follow up with all prospective students who have completed the Apprenticeship Admissions form with the information session and work shadow schedule.
