Venus Flytrap

This carnivorous perennial is native to the subtropical wetlands of the southeastern United States so it is not cold hardy here. It needs full sun to partial shade and moist soil conditions to reach a height of about 1 foot. The "trap" is not the plant's flower; it is a set of specialized leaves.  It blooms with its true flowers (showy, five-petaled, white) from January to April.  If kept as a houseplant, it needs distilled water to survive.
