Amaranthus caudatus, known as love-lies-bleeding or tassel flower, is a native to the American tropics. It has been used for thousands of years as a grain crop as well for the edible leaves. Its use has spread throughout tropical regions. Gardeners in colder regions plant this as an annual, valued for its large panicles of drooping red or green cat-tail like flowers.
