Moss Phlox
Phlox subulata ‘Blue Hills’ is commonly known as a moss phlox or creeping phlox. It grows only 6 inches high, forming a dense cushion/ mat of dark green foliage. It blooms in spring with a showy display of lavender blue flowers. It is resistant to deer and is hardy in zones 3 – 9. The genus name is from the Greek word phlox meaning flame in reference to the many bright colors of some varieties.
