Creeping Phlox
Phlox stolonifera ‘Sherwood Purple’ is commonly known as creeping phlox. It blooms in mid spring to early summer with purple blue flowers. The flower stems rise up to 8 inches above the foliage which forms a mat only 2 inches high. Plant it in partial shade. It is attractive to butterflies and hardy in zones 3 - 8. The genus name is from the Greek word phlox meaning flame in reference to the many bright colors of some varieties.
