The paniculata species of phlox are the most magnificent and there is a huge selection to choose from. Plant 'Eden's Smile' in full sun in fertile most soil where it grows 2 to 3 feet and bears unusually patterned purple flowers, mauve pink on the outside with darker pink centers. Phlox is not always an easy plant to grow but this perennial has foliage that is more mildew-resistant than most. It attracts butterflies and hummingbirds.
