Peonies are in their element in our area; they are easy-to-grow herbaceous perennials that love the cold winters. They are divided into three divisions: single,semi-double and double. They prefer full sun and moist, well-drained soil and should be planted so that the eyes on the roots are no more 2” below the soil; if planted deeper, plants will not flower well. ‘Midnight Sun’ has dark red double flowers with yellow centers that bloom in mid-May.
