Wolong Roof Iris
Lavender flowers are flecked with purple spots in June on Wolong Chinese roof iris (Iris tectorum 'Wolong'), a handsome selection made by Jim Waddick from natural populations in Wolong, Sichuan Province, China, in 1989. Plant 'Wolong' in full sun to partial shade in moisture-retentive soils, and avoid applying mulch over the root systems. The common name references the fact that this species often grows on the clay tile roofs of older buildings in parts of China and Japan.
