Hibiscus moscheutos 'Sweet Caroline' has pink flowers with darker veins and a dark red eye. The flowers are 6-8” across with slightly ruffled overlapping and petals. At maturity, the plant stands 4-5 ft tall and blooms from mid summer to fall. It is hardy in zones 5 - 9. It is attractive to hummingbirds while resistant to deer. The name Hibiscus came from the Greek word “hibiskos” that meant “marshmallow.” The sticky root or stem of some plant in the mallow family was used at one time to make marshmallow confections.
