Showy Geranium
Showy geranium really lives up to its name. From late May to early June, this mounded perennial is smothered with large violet-blue flowers with darker purple veins. The foliage is also attractive, with deeply-lobed leaves. The whole plant is densely hairy, including the clusters of flower buds. This is a sterile hybrid of two western Asian species, Geranium ibericum and Geranium platypetalum. That means it will not propagate from seed. Once the first flush of blooming is done, spent flowers should be removed. It will only bloom sporadically later in the season.
