Mock Strawberry
Mock strawberry looks like a tiny strawberry plant, with dark green, three-parted toothed leaves. Native from India to Japan, it has become a common lawn weed in the Midwest. The plants spread by stolons, underground stems that creep along and produce new plants, sometimes forming thick mats. Taxonomists have been debating the placement of this species. It has yellow flowers like a potentilla, but produces small, insipid fruits that look like strawberries, in the genus Fragaria.
