Patterned by Nature – Kristin Field

Noticing

Kristin invites us to pause and discover nature’s subtle wonders through naturally dyed textiles, which she created using time-intensive practices like growing dye plants and weaving on a floor loom.

ARTIST STATEMENT

“Through engaging with natural dyes and fibers, my work invites viewers to slow down and connect with nature, encouraging a deeper curiosity for the subtle wonders all around us. I am continually inspired by nature and science, and working with plant matter—especially from my Chicago garden—deepens my own connection to the natural world. Noticing reminds us to pause and discover the intricate beauty and small details in the often overlooked.”

Kristin enjoys sharing her love of natural dyeing, textile art, and gardening through teaching, and she has taught classes with Botanical Colors, Lillstreet Art Center, Garfield Park Conservatory, Chicago Public Library, and Lurie Garden. Through her work as an artist and arts educator, she aims to slow down to find new perspectives and to connect more deeply with community and the natural world.
