Rethinking Lawns

Adult Ed | Horticulture | Rethinking lawns

The Range of Options for a New Kind of Lawn
Lawns cover vast areas of our local landscapes. Between planting, mowing, weeding, spraying, and watering, they consume a lot of resources, time, and energy. What if we reimagined the lawn? Chicago Botanic Garden researchers Rebecca Barak, Ph.D., and Liz Anna Kozik, Ph.D., are working on what our lawns could become. Discover their research on alternative lawn options, including effectiveness at increasing biodiversity, supporting ecosystem functions, maintenance considerations, and aesthetic appeal. Dive into the growing field of lawn alternatives with a menu of options and practical tips to rethink lawns. Class may visit lawn alternative experimental plots at the Garden, weather permitting. Dress for the weather.
