Bird-of-Paradise

Bird of paradise plant (Strelitzia reginae) produces showy orange-and-blue flowers from early fall to late winter. This clump-forming South African ginger relative grows to a height of about 6 feet with bright, indirect indoor light and moderate moisture conditions. Like other tropical plants, it benefits from misting with water during the winter months to increase the humidity and keep spider mite populations low. Misting with water actually causes the spider mites to catch the equivalent of pneumonia.
