Large mounds of very fragrant (vanilla) purple flowers are produced just above the dark green foliage on this nonhardy perennial that flowers from midsummer up to frost. This plant is free of most pests and diseases if grown in moderately fertile soils and in full sun, with adequate irrigation during periods of drought; it's a butterfly (and other insect pollinator) magnet.
