Sprengers Asparagus Fern
Long arching stems with light green 'leaves' (cladophylls) of the Sprengeri asparagus make an excellent hanging basket or annual ground cover in Chicago area gardens but have been known to be invasive in warmer climates. Small white flowers in summer are not showy but if pollinated produce bright red berries in fall. Gardeners should beware of the sharp thorns that many asparagus produce.
