Australian Tree Fern

The Australian tree fern or Lacy tree fern is native to the rain forests of north-eastern Australia and is the tallest of all the ferns. It has long arching fronds with lacy light green foliage and a relatively narrow trunk with characteristic 'coin spots' where dead fronds have been shed.

Like most ferns, it prefers protected locations with rich, moist, well-drained soil and partial sun. In its native habitat it can grow to 40 feet high and 40 feet wide but in cultivation it tends to grow to between 8 and 20 feet high and about the same width. It is not hardy, so must be taken indoors in colder climates.
