Brazilian Starfish Aji Pepper
Capsicum baccatum is the species name for aji or Peruvian hot peppers. The plants have a more shrubby habit than bell and sweet peppers and have white flowers with a chartreuse blotch. The peppers are generally narrow and irregular in shape. They are popular in South America and Caribbean countries. ‘Brazilian Starfish’ has an unusual squat shape, something like a habanero pepper. It is hotter than jalapenos, but also very sweet and flavorful. The plants should be started indoors because they have a long growing season before starting to produce.
