Budlight Lily-flowered Tulip

'Budlight' is classified as a lily-flowering tulip, with a narrow flower that flares out at the tips. Developed in the Netherlands, the flowers are sunshine yellow with white tips and they reach a height of about 20 inches. When planting, bulbs should be spaced about 6 inches apart and look better massed instead of lined up like soldiers.

Lily-flowered tulips will return the next year if their ideal growing conditions are met. They require full sun and moist soils in winter that are allowed to dry out in summer. Foliage should not be removed until it turns yellow. Protect from deer, rabbits, chipmunks, squirrels, and voles whenever possible by interplanting with bulbs from the onion or amaryllis families.
