Where the former Robert Taylor Homes housing project stood, aspiring farmers now work at the Legends South Farm.
About the Program
Through the Windy City Harvest Entrepreneur and Career program, students can take additional short courses in sustainable agriculture in industry-specific topics, such as Business and Entrepreneurship for Local Foods, Season Extension, Aquaponics and Edible Landscaping/Rooftop Farming. These certificate courses are open to the general public and Windy City Harvest alumni.
Launched in 2013, Windy City Harvest’s Farm Incubator Program was developed to help reduce the risks beginning farmers face when starting their own enterprise. Incubator farmers are carefully selected each year from student applicants who have completed Windy City Harvest’s Apprenticeship and 14-week Business and Entrepreneurship for Local Foods certificate course.
These Windy City Harvest program components are supported by funding from the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture’s Beginning Farmers and Ranchers Development Program.
