GLENCOE, IL (December 6, 2017) – The Woman’s Board of the Chicago Horticultural Society raised more than $264,000 at its 12th annual All Aboard! gala on Friday, December 1, at the Chicago Botanic Garden. Around 350 guests enjoyed the event, ensuring that the Chicago Botanic Garden will continue to protect biodiversity, connect people with plants, and move forward with thriving research and programs that support the Garden’s mission: We cultivate the power of plants to sustain and enrich life.
Guests enjoyed authentic Italian music from the Joe DeLuca Orchestra, accordionist and violinist, while surrounded by illuminated landscapes, stunning plant displays, garden-scale trains and miniature replicas of Chicago landmarks in the Wonderland Express exhibition.
In keeping with the theme “A Holiday Journey Through Italy,” Kehoe Designs created dining rooms, named “Capri,” “Tuscany,” and “Tivoli.” Jewell Events Catering served festive, seasonal fare to match the theme, including grilled baby octopus, sweet potato agnolotti, cracked pepper tenderloin of beef, wild mushroom risotto and rosemary polenta cake. A cannoli filling station, petite sweet birch displays, an Italian coffee bar and a limoncello cart were offered for dessert. Guests took home biscotti at the end of the night.
The 2017 All Aboard! party was co-chaired by Mary Alice Miller of Kenilworth and Marcy Johnson of Wilmette.
