Katarzyna Takao-Piastowska (1981) comes from Slupsk in northern Poland and is a city carillonneur in Emmerich am Rhein, Germany. She studied music theory and composition and received her Master’s degree in 2005 from the Music Academy in Gdańsk. After her study in 2005, she was awarded a Huygens scholarship and took part in a project for carillon performance and campanology in the Dutch Carillon School in Amersfoort, the Netherlands. From 2006 to 2008, she studied carillon performance with Geert D'Hollander in the Roosevelt Academy in Middelburg, Netherlands. In 2008 and 2015, she won the first prize at the carillon contest in Middelburg and Goes. In 2013 together with her husband, Toru Takao, they won the 2nd Prize at Duo carillon competition in Zwolle, Netherlands (the first prize was not given).
In 2015, she graduated from the Royal Carillon School in Mechelen, Belgium.
Currently Katarzyna lives in Germany and she is active as a freelance musician and carillonneur. She and her husband work together to promote carillon culture in Germany, Japan and Poland. They reinstituted regular carillon recitals at the carillon of the Saint Aldegundis Church in Emmerich in 2012. Since 2015, they organize ”Emmericher Glocken Sommer” carillon music festival in cooperation with the city, the church, and guest carillonneurs. Katarzyna is a member of the German Carillon Society.
