Participate in the Veteran Internship Program to create a plan for transitioning to the civilian workforce while working under supervision in a Garden department. Garden departments may include Accounting, Bonsai, Camp CBG, Construction & Maintenance, Display Gardens, Human Resources, Interpretive Gardens, and Living Plant Documentation. You will work under supervision and also receive individual and small group assistance to create a civilian job market resume and cover letter; develop a professional online presence via LinkedIn; practice interview skills and professionalism; explore career choices; and learn how to search for employment.
Duties and Responsibilities: 

In this role you will be responsible for the following: 

  • Assist and support the department in which you are working.
  • Be an enthusiastic and positive contributor to the Veteran Internship Program.
  • Complete the Veteran Internship Program curriculum.

Our ideal candidate will have the following:

• Veteran status
• Honorably discharged
• Must be able to provide DD Form 214 during application process
• Provide Veteran I.D.
• Must be able to work 12 weeks from May 18 through August 7
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• High degree of flexibility, responsibility, involvement, responsiveness, and cooperation

Physical Demands: 
Office setting: Sitting, standing, walking, bending, listening, speaking, and keyboarding. Use of office equipment including computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, and fax machines. Lifting, pushing, or pulling items up to 30 pounds. Outside setting: Physical ability and stamina to walk to Garden areas. Periods of walking and standing. Lifting, pushing, or pulling items up to 50 pounds. Most of the work is conducted outside, rain or shine.
$15/hour for 30 hours/week for 12 weeks ; Additional $50/week travel allowance
