Strengthen the Chicago Botanic Garden's aquatic plant and urban lake studies program by maintaining aesthetic shoreline conditions and quality lakeshore habitat. Located 25 miles north of downtown Chicago, the Garden's 385-acre campus includes 60 acres of lakes. Over the past 20 years more than ½-million native aquatic and shoreline plants have been added along 5 miles of our lakeshore. These shoreline plantings (representing 240 native plant taxa) have been effective in stabilizing eroding shoreline soils and enhancing aquatic habitat. This is a seasonal full-time position. The season is anticipated to end in August or September 2022, with work scheduled Monday through Friday, from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Duties and Responsibilities:

In this role you will be responsible for the following:
•     Maintaining aesthetic shoreline conditions throughout the Garden’s lake system
•     Removing nuisance plant and algae growth as well as litter, debris, and occasional nuisance fish/wildlife
•     Wearing waders (provided by the Garden) and accessing the shoreline via rowboats and/or walking along the shoreline edge
•     Operating gas-powered weed trimmers

Physical Demands:
Employees must be comfortable operating rowboats and trolling motors, be able to walk on an uneven lake bottom, and bend over for extended periods of time (e.g.,cutting/raking aquatic weeds), and have an ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
