Overview: 
The position is part-time (20 hours/week), working with scientists at the Chicago Botanic Garden and National Tropical Botanic Garden on the utilization of genetic markers to aid in the conservation of Phyllostegia electra. The research assistant will be at the Chicago Botanic Garden to assist with genotyping, using genetic markers. The long-term objective is to determine the extent of genetic diversity in this species.
Duties and Responsibilities: 

In this role, you will be responsible for the following: 

  • Extraction of 250 DNA samples in the Harris Genetics Laboratory
  • Genotyping individuals using microsatellite markers
  • Helping with Genetic Analysis
  • Preparing manuscript

Qualifications: 

Our ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Flexible time schedule
  • Experience working in a genetics molecular lab
  • Some experience working in a communal lab setting
  • Experience using microsatellite data
Physical Demands: 
Frequent sitting, standing. Use of office equipment including computers and lab equipment.
