Amanda Moss is the assistant horticulturist for the Regenstein Learning Campus, Butterflies & Blooms, and Bird Island.
Moss’s interest in horticulture was cultivated while working as a farmhand on a 15-acre vegetable farm about 30 miles west of Chicago. After four seasons of radish planting, tomato picking, and tractor riding, she took a job with the Chicago Park District as an outdoor floriculture worker, assisting in planting and maintaining annual flower displays in many of Chicago’s northwest side parks.
In March 2018, Moss received an associate’s degree in horticulture at the College of DuPage. Following graduation, she completed a northbound thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail. She enjoyed observing common flora of the Appalachian Mountains, particularly tulip poplar, mountain laurel, and wild blueberries.
